Ernie Barnes (1938-2009) was an NFL Football Player and an African-American painter known for his dramatic artistic use of movement and space in his painting He spent his time drawing exuberant, expressive paintings when he wasn’t on the field playing with the Baltimore Colts, Titans of New York, San Diego Chargers, Denver Broncos and the Canadian Football League throughout the 1960s.


His artwork is still around and was featured on the hit show back in 70″s Good Times and on Marvin Gaye’s album cover I Want You.
He created five official posters for the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Over the years he completed commissions for clients like the National Basketball Association, Seton Hall University. and major celebrities, and the private sector.
He was married three times.


Ernie Barnes passed away on Monday evening, April 27, 2009, at Cedars Sinai Hospital in LA from myeloid leukemia.He was cremated and his ashes were scattered in two places: at his hometown Durham, North Carolina, near the site of where his family home once stood, and at the beach in Carmel Californa one of his favorite cities this all took place during the election of former president Barak Obama.
