In 1865Invented one of the First Self-Propelled Street SweepersInvented, the Ticket punch collector Charles Brooks was born in the State of Virginia in 1865. He moved to Newark, New Jersey. With his passion, he invented the first United States self-propelled street sweeper which also could remove snow from the streets. He also invented a ticket punch machine that collected the chads from the paper being punched rather than let them litter the ground. Both of these inventions we still see today. on May 12, 1896, he patented a dust-proof collection bag for the street sweeper (US Patent #560,154).
