Early Life and Education

Christopher C. Womack was born on February 01, 1958, in Greenville, Alabama, United States. Growing up in Greenville, he developed a strong sense of community and a desire to make a positive impact. Womack pursued his higher education at Western Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He later obtained a Master of Public Administration degree from The American University. To further enhance his leadership skills and industry knowledge, Womack completed the Stanford Executive Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2001. Presently, he is pursuing a doctoral degree in political science at Clark Atlanta University, demonstrating his commitment to continuous learning and personal growth.

Career

Womack’s illustrious career spans over three decades, primarily within the energy sector. He joined Southern Company in 1988 and quickly rose through the ranks, holding various leadership positions within the company and its subsidiaries. Notably, Womack served as Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Public Relations at Alabama Power, Executive Vice President of External Affairs at Georgia Power, and Senior Vice President and Senior Production Officer of Southern Company Generation.

In 2021, Womack assumed the role of President and CEO of Southern Company, a leading national energy provider serving 9 million customers. Prior to this, he served as Chairman, President, and CEO of Georgia Power, the largest subsidiary of Southern Company. Throughout his career, Womack has been instrumental in driving operational excellence, fostering customer-centric initiatives, and advancing environmental sustainability efforts within the utilities industry.
