Prince Rogers Nelson born June 7, 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota in an interracial marriage he is known also as Prince the artist. His parents were John Nelson, a musician whose stage name was Prince Rogers, and Mattie Shaw, a jazz singer who performed with the Prince Rogers Band
Roger is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist which he plays, and actor. He has produced ten platinum albums and thirty Top 40 singles during his career. He has written several hundred songs and produces and records his own music for his own music label. In addition, he has promoted the careers of Sheila E, Carmen Electra, the Time and Vanity 6, and his songs have been recorded by these artists and others.
Purple Rain is the sixth studio album by American recording artist Prince, the second to feature his backing band The Revolution, and is the soundtrack album to the 1984 film of the same name. the album receive a Diamond Award from the Recording Industry Association of America and the album spent 24 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard albums chart (August 4, 1984 to January 18, 1985), becoming one of the top soundtracks ever. It was released on June 25, 1984 by Warner Bros. Records.
To date, it has sold over 22 million copies worldwide, becoming the sixth best-selling soundtrack album of all time. He scored over fifty top 40 hits around the world since 1979. He was ranked as the 21st most successful act of all time, the 26th most successful chart artist worldwide, including 27 overall number-one entries, and being the most successful chart act of the 1980s. His most commercial period was from 1982’s 1999 to 1996’s Emancipation; however, he maintained a loyal audience since and experienced a commercial resurgence with 2004’s Musicology, paving the way for several successful albums to follow including his final, Hit n Run Phase Two, released in December 201
He released several hundred songs both under his own name and under pseudonyms and/or pen names, as well as writing songs which have been recorded by other artists. Estimates of the actual number of songs written by Prince (released and unreleased) range anywhere from five hundred to well over one thousand. Prince sold over 150 million records worldwide, including 48.9 million certified units in the United States, 4.8 million in France, over 1 million in Canada and over 10 million records in the United Kingdom.
Since the year 2000 he released 16 albums, including The Rainbow Children (2001). In April 2013, Prince announced a West Coast tour titled Live Out Loud Tour with 3rdeyegirl as his backing band. In May of the same year Prince announced a deal with Kobalt Music to market and distribute his music
On August 14, 2013, Prince released a new solo single for download through the 3rdeyegirl.com website and performed concerts with the band. In 2014 He re-signed with Warner Bros. Records after an 18-year split. Warner Brothers announced that Prince would release a re-mastered deluxe edition of his 1984 album Purple Rain in 2014 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the album. In return, Warner gave Prince full ownership of the master recordings of his Warner recordings.
Prince’s penultimate album, Hit n Run Phase One, was first made available on September 7, 2015, on the music streaming service Tidal before being released on CD and download on September 14. His last album, Hit n Run Phase Two, was meant as a continuation of this one, and was released on Tidal for streaming and download on December 12, 2015.
