mini bio.
Patrice was born in the village of Onaluain Kasai province,Belgian Congo, Lumumba was a bourgeois democrat who became rapidly radicalized through his opposition to bare-faced Belgian colonial ambitions. In 1956 he was arrested on a charge of embezzlement and was condemned to 12 months’ imprisonment and a fine. However, when Lumumba got out of prison, he grew even more active in politics.
In October 1958, he founded the Congolese National Movement, the first nationwide Congolese political party. On 17th January 1961, Lumumba, first and only elected Prime Minister of Congo, was murdered. The circumstances of his death remain a mystery, his killers still at large.
He was a realist, a visionary with a strong character who intended to pursue his policies regardless of the enemies he made within his country or in foreign countries. An African nationalist leader, he became the first Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (June-September 1960). Assassinated January 17, 1961. He had the unification of his country and was fought in every direction. He was arrested on many occasions and finally terminated out of life. His murder is one of the most important of the 20th century and still unmentioned in the vast media outlets. The Congo was too rich, too big, and too important for the west to lose control if they would have had Lumumba lived
More importantly, the greatest legacy that Patrice Lumumba has left for the Congo is the ideal of national unity. The complete sacrifice was that of Patrice Lumumba for the Congo’s unity. Even with the genocide that is still going on and the military constant presence, the people will remain utterly steadfast in their defense for national unity.
