Hattie McDaniel
(June 10, 1895 – October 26, 1952)
She was an African American, activist, actress, singer-songwriter, educator, mentor, and comedian.
The first African American to win an Academy Award for her role as Mammy in Gone with the Wind (1939), for which she won in the category of Best Supporting Actress,
The first black woman to sing on a radio show in the United States.
The first black to have had two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame first location is at 6933 Hollywood Boulevard for her contributions to radio and at 1719 Vine Street for acting in motion pictures.
In 1975, she was inducted into the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame.
The first black Oscar winner was honored with a US postage stamp in 2006.
Hattie with her win at the Supreme Court case over segregation housing had the law removed in California.
